Updating Area
Codes
When the phone company changes area codes, changes are grouped
by exchange (first three digits of the phone number). For example,
every phone number in area code 123 that starts with 555-xxxx will
be switched to area code 456. PCRecruiter allows you to make these
changes with a global feature. You will enter the new and old area
codes, and the prefix groups that the change applies to.
To update PCRecruiter's area codes using the Windows version, you
must first create a special phone number index in your database(s).
This will increase the size of the database very slightly. The job
may take anywhere from several minutes to several hours. You probably
will want to run this after hours or when database activity is minimal.
- Open the System tab
- Select Global Changes
- Select Area Codes
- Click "Create Phone Indexes" and wait for the indexes
to be created.
- Click “import text file” to import the area code
indexes .
- Browse to the file "areacode.txt" in the PCRecruiter
folder and run the job
When completed, your area codes will be current to June 2002.
DO NOT run this job without backing up your data. Any global change
has the potential to go wrong, and you will want to have a backup
handy in case you run into problems.
