Importing
Data from LexisNexis
How to Download Data from the LexisNexis Company
Dossier
- Open your web browser and go to http://w3.nexis.com/new
- Enter your Id and Password and select 'Sign-In'.
- Select the 'Company' tab at the top.
- On right-side navigation bar, choose "Dossier - Create a Company List"
- Choose 'Industry' to create a list using SIC or NAIC look-up. You may enter industry terms in the SIC or NAIC window to narrow your options.
- OPTIONAL: Enter search terms into Terms field to better narrow the companies you seek and select 'Business Description.' Remember, these are likely terms the company has used to describe itself. If, for example, you seek a manufacturer of steel punch products, you may not wish to use the terms section. Very large companies that have several divisions may not list the individual products in their business description.
- Select 'Create'
- You will see a Preview of you results, offering a chance to edit your search if the companies you see don’t appear to be what you wanted.
- To move past Preview, select 'Next: Customize List'
- To view, download or print the complete offering per company, you must choose CHECK ALL and then select 'Update Company List.' If you do not, the material to be imported to PCRecruiter will not map to the fields of your database accurately and will result in an incomplete and jumbled result.
- Companies may be viewed or downloaded in groups of 1000. You must choose 'Purchase' for each set of 1000. You will not be charged for this content, as it is included in your flat rate. You do not have to recreate your search for each 1000.
- Once finished viewing, downloading or printing the first set of 1000, select the scroll right button in the middle of the screen next to the results number set. This will prompt another 'Purchase' option. Choose it until you complete the list.
- Select 'Download Company List'. Large files, may take a moment to download.
- Right click the 'Download Table' link.
- Click' Save Target As'.
- Select 'Desktop' in the 'Save In' dropdown.
- Name the file 'results.xls'
- Click the 'Save' button.
- You can now close the 'Save As' window and minimize LexisNexis
in the event that your file did not download properly. Now,
your data file is downloaded to your desktop.
- Open the 'results.xls' file in Excel and use the 'Save As' item in the File menu to save it as a .CSV (Comma Separated Values) file.
