Add A Resume
There are a few different ways to get a resume into PCRecruiter. The simplest resumes to deal with are those that come to you electronically, either as email, word processor documents, or off of the web. The tougher ones to handle are resumes on paper. These require either retyping, or being scanned into an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) program, so that they can be dealt with electronically. The OCR software will attempt to decipher the scanned image of the document and recognize letters, and then turn it into a text file. The success of an OCR scan depends on several factors, including the size and font of the resume, the quality of the resume print, the quality of the scanner, and the quality of the OCR software. Main Sequence Technology neither sells nor supports OCR software, but you can find a listing of several options at the Yahoo.Com.
If the resume arrives electronically, there are several methods to choose from. Follow the flowchart below to decide on the best way for you:

1) Open the webpage in your web browser.
2) Select all of the resume text by: a) clicking down and dragging the mouse
over it, b) choosing 'Select All' from the 'Edit' menu, or c) pressing 'Ctrl' and 'A' on
the keyboard.
3) Copy the text by pressing 'Ctrl' and 'C' on the keyboard or choosing
'Copy' from the edit menu.
4) The resume is now in the Windows Clipboard, and you can proceed to the next step.
1) Open the email in your email program.

Attached to an email as a document -
Note: Attachments can harbor viruses. Therefore it is always preferable to receive resumes in the body of the email. If you must open attachments, it is best to designate one machine in the office for doing so, and to be sure that that computer is regularly checked for viruses.
1) Open the email in your email program.
2) Open the attachment.
3) Select all of the resume text by: a) clicking down and dragging the mouse
over it, b) choosing 'Select All' from the 'Edit' menu, or c) pressing 'Ctrl' and
'A' on the keyboard.
4) Copy the text by pressing 'Ctrl' and 'C' on the keyboard or choosing
'Copy' from the edit menu.
5) The resume is now in the Windows Clipboard, and you can proceed to the next step.
On my hard drive as a document -
I have one
resume to import...
I have a folder full of
resumes to import...
Method A:
1) Open the document in your word processor.
2) Select all of the resume text by: a) clicking down and dragging the mouse
over it, b) choosing 'Select All' from the 'Edit' menu, or c) pressing 'Ctrl' and
'A' on the keyboard.
3) Copy the text by pressing 'Ctrl' and 'C' on the keyboard or choosing
'Copy' from the edit menu.
4) The resume is now in the Windows Clipboard, and you can proceed to the next step.
Method B:
1) Open the document in your word processor.
2) Choose "Save As..." from the File Menu.
3) Save the document in Rich Text Format (.rtf)
4) Remember where you have saved the file and what you have called it, and
then proceed to the next step.
Importing
Multiple Resumes
The mass-import resume feature in PCRecruiter will take all of the
resume texts in a selected folder and either match them up to an existing record based on
the Name record's ID, or create a new record in the default House Account company.
The titles of all imported resume texts will be prefixed with an exclamation point.
1) Make sure that all of the resumes you wish to
import are in a single folder on your hard drive.
2) Make sure that all of the resumes you wish to import are in Plain Text
(.txt) or Rich Text Format (.rtf).
2a - If they are not, open each one in your Word
Processor
2b - Choose "Save As..." from the File Menu
2c - Save the resumes to a new folder in Rich
Text Format (.rtf)
3) Decide on your mass-import method fits your resumes best:
- My resumes are all titled in the format
"FirstName_LastName_PhoneNumber.rtf" (or .txt, phone number is optional)...
- My resumes are all titled with the
Identification Number for the Name record they belong with...
- My resumes are not titled in any consistent
format...
Importing Resumes in Titled Format
1) Go to the System Tab in
PCRecruiter.
2) Click on the "Import/Export" button.
3) Click on the "Resumes" tab.
4) Click on the top button, "Import Resumes
(FirstName_LastName_Phone.@@@)"
5) You will be prompted to locate the folder your resume files are in.
Find it and open it. Click "Save".
6) A new record will be created in your default company (House Account) for
every resume in the folder. If there are files in the folder selected that are not
in the F_L_P.@@@ format, new Name records will be created using the title of the resume
file as the Identification field for the record.
7) After all resumes are imported, click on "Index Resume
Keywords" to index the resume text for later searching.
Importing Resumes by Name Record ID
1) Go to the System Tab in
PCRecruiter.
2) Click on the "Import/Export" button.
3) Click on the "Resumes"
tab.
4) Click on the second button, "Import Resumes Using Identification
Field"
5) You will be prompted to locate the folder your resume files are in.
Find it and open it. Click "Save".
6) All resumes in the directory will be imported into new Name records on
the default company (House Account) using the title of the resume file as the
Identification field for that record.
7) After all resumes are imported, click on "Index Resume
Keywords" to index the resume text for later searching.
Importing Resumes with Profile Entry
1) Go to the System Tab in
PCRecruiter.
2) Click on the "Import/Export" button.
3) Click on the "Resumes" tab.
4) Click on the third button, "Import Resumes With Profile Entry"
5) You will be prompted to locate the folder your resume files are in.
Find it and open it. Click "Save".
6) PCRecruiter will launch the 'Addr' resume entry wizard (see below) with the first resume
in the selected directory. Each time you click "OK", the next resume will
be automatically opened. Click Cancel to stop at any time.
7) After all resumes are imported, click on "Index Resume
Keywords" to index the resume text for later searching.
8) Resumes will be imported to the default company (house account).
You will not see the new name records until the company record is refreshed - either by
clicking the "House Accounts" button, or by jumping to the company record from a
search results list.
Importing a Resume Using the Addr Wizard...
(This step requires that you have copied a resume into the Windows Clipboard, as described in the previous steps)
1) Go to the Company tab in
PCRecruiter and locate the company you wish to add the new resume/name to (add a new
Company if necessary).
2) Click on the Names tab.
3) Click the 'Add' button (it will change to a Cancel button, which can be
used to abort the new record at any time).
4) When prompted, choose plain "Yes" to create a blank name record
for the chosen company.
5) Click the 'Addr' button (to the right of the Middle Initial field)
6) The resume you copied previously should appear in the white text entry
area.
7) PCRecruiter will place the name, address, phone numbers, title, and
web/email address into the yellow fields based on the lines they appear on in the resume.
If they do not appear on the correct lines, you may correct the order of the text
white text area below.
8) IMPORTANT: In the 'Addr' screen, you are directly editing the
information you copied into the Windows Clipboard. Therefore, using the standard
keyboard commands for Copy, Cut and Paste will remove everything from the 'Addr' editing
areas and replace it with whatever you copied/cut/pasted. If you need to cut or
paste, use the buttons provided on the left side of the text editing area.
9) When the text is properly displayed in the yellow fields, click
"OK". The resume will be automatically indexed for searching.
10) On the Name record screen, click "Save." The resume
button will now display an open file drawer to signify that the record has a resume.
Importing a Resume from Rich Text Format
1) Go to the Company tab in PCRecruiter and locate the
company you wish to add the new resume/name to (add a new Company if necessary).
2) Click on the Names tab.
3) Click the 'Add' button (it will change to a Cancel button, which can be
used to abort the new record at any time).
4) When prompted, choose plain "Yes" to create a blank name record
for the chosen company, or "Yes and Use Company Address" to create a Name record
using the company address.
5) Click on the "Resume" button.
6) In the resume entry/editing screen, go to the "File" menu and
choose "Open RTF file"
7) Locate the resume .rtf file on your hard drive and Open it.
8) The resume should appear in formatted text in the editing area.
9) Make any changes necessary and click "OK"
10) On the Name record screen, click "Save." The resume
button will now display an open file drawer to signify that the record has a resume.
