Updating PCRecruiter

PCRecruiter, like most computer software, is a work in progress.  Our development team is constantly taking suggestions from customers to make PCRecruiter the best and most useful program of its kind on the market.  Main Sequence Technologies sends an email to its customers when there is a major change in the software, but most often the update is to fix minor glitches, and is loaded onto our website without much fanfare.  If you are having trouble with PCRecruiter, it's not a bad idea to get the update.  You can check what version you are currently running in the

1) Go to a computer on the network that has access to the World Wide Web. If the server on which the PCRecruiter database resides has access, use the server.

2) Have everyone in the office close out of PCRecruiter on their computers.

3) For the latest fully tested update of PCRecruiter, go to your web browser and enter the address www.pcrecruiter.com. Click on "Current Update File" on the first screen that appears on the web site. For the latest beta update, go to www.pcrecruiter.com/update.exe. (Note: new beta features are not guaranteed to be completely operational.)

4) On the "File Download" screen that appears, choose "Save this program to disk"

5) Click OK

6) From the "Save As" screen, click the dropdown arrow in the right hand side of the "Save in:" field

7) Find "Desktop" and click on it so that it is highlighted in blue. "Desktop" will appear in the "Save in:" field.

8) Click "Save". A "File Download" screen will appear indicating "Saving update.exe from www.pcrecruiter.com" from the Web. Wait for the file to download.

9) Click "OK" when the "Download Complete" screen appears.

10) Go to the Desktop on your computer.

11) updticon.jpg (4874 bytes) This icon will appear on your desktop. Double-click it. A screen called "PKSFX Ò C:/WINDOWS/DESKTOP/update.exe" will appear with "c:\progra~1\pcrecr~1" in the "Extract to:" field. This lets you know that the update will be downloaded to the C: drive, under Program Files, in PCRecruiter. (If you are on a computer other than the server, you must create a new file on the server to extract to. Then use the dropdown arrow in the Extract To field to locate that folder in order to extract it there. If your PCRecruiter program is located on a drive other than C:, use the "Drives" field in the upper right to direct it to the appropriate drive.)

12) Click on the Extract button. You’ll notice a message indicating that the files are inflating.

13) Login to PCRecruiter on the server. You’ll notice a new version number on the login screen.

14) Enter your Login and Password and go to the System tab in PCRecruiter.

15) Click the "Update Database" button. A warning screen will appear asking you if want to continue.

16) Click "Yes". The updating process will take place, and when it’s complete a screen will appear asking you to please restart PCRecruiter.

17) Click "OK".

18) Open PCRecruiter, log in, and the update is complete. All other users may now re-login.
