Job Description

Our client is a medium sized tier one supplier of automotive interior moulded products to several major automakers.  They operate 3 production facilities in Ontario and the parent company operates on a global scale.  The Division has created a new position to lead the launch of a major new business initiative incorporating exciting technology new to the company. 




This position is responsible for providing technical direction and support for a new start-up business unit to service a major new business award and continuation of manufacturing support when in full production. This position will facilitate the design of new process equipment lines including tooling to the standards of established processes within the division, including equipment specification and procurement, cost estimating, and the sharing of technology within the Division. This position works closely with Sales, Engineering, R&D, Finance, Purchasing and Cost Estimating departments in support of the APQP process and company strategies.


1. Works under the direction of the Manager, Product Development, with assignments and expectations tied closely with plant objectives to reduce cost, improve quality, and achieve advancements in both process and product technology. As a new product start-up, will provide direction and insight for the manufacturing of specially molded interior parts and systems contributing to equipment procurement, installation, debug and tryout.

2. Leads the research and implementation of new or improved equipment/tooling/processes to satisfy changing production requirements. Works with outside machinery suppliers, machine shops, plant engineering, and maintenance in these efforts.

3. Assists in the validation of new processes as necessary. May be required to obtain/negotiate approval or revisions to customer product specifications.

4. Initiates projects and tasks through creative insight, leveraging manufacturing and product knowledge.

5. Confirms feasibility/capability of proposed product/process improvements using statistical methods.

6. Assists in the transfer of product and process between plants within the Division and the equipment vendors in Michigan.

7. Keeps current on developments related to manufacturing and product technology through meetings with suppliers, customers, trade publications, shows and conferences, etc.

8. Reports status and progress of projects monthly through a Project Status Report.

9. May on occasion be required to perform duties other than those specified above.

10. For assigned technologies, will act as communicative link with technical and manufacturing sites, including other global regions, for the purpose of process development, Best Practice exchange, standardization, etc. Some domestic or international travel may be periodically necessary.


• 4 year technical degree or equivalent (BSME preferred)
• 5 to10 or more years of experience in automotive interior parts and with various forms of moulding plastic (compression, injection, rotational and vacuum forming).


• This position requires a person who is organized and has demonstrated a proactive task approach to work.
• The position requires a high level of problem solving and data driven analysis.
• Interpersonal skills are necessary to coordinate and lead projects and meetings effectively.
• Computer competency required, including spreadsheet and word-processing software.
• Experience with equipment/processes for various molding applications for automotive interiors.
• Knowledgeable with ISO9000 family QMS, LEAN, process variation, pull system, error proofing.
