INTRODUCTION

The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB/the Bank) is seeking to recruit an Office Attendant (Driver/Messenger) to work in the Administrative Services Unit of the Human Resources and Administration Department.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Human Resources and Administration Department is responsible for planning and providing advice, programmes and services relating to strategic human resources planning and management, the Bank's organisation structure and a wide range of administrative services including communications, property management and maintenance, cost-effective procurement of goods and services, printing and reproduction. The Department is made up of Human Resources and the Administrative Services Unit (ASU).

THE ROLE

The Office Attendant (Driver/Messenger) will report to the Administrative Assistant (General Administration), ASU. He/she will be accountable for operating the Bank’s transport needs relating to official errands, collecting and delivering mail, parcels etc., and in transporting officers of the Bank and other official visitors including external Directors of the Bank. The incumbent is also responsible for performing messenger services for the Bank thus maintaining effective communication links internally and externally. He/she will assist with general security of the Bank’s buildings and property, as necessary.

The Office Attendant Driver/Messenger will be responsible for the custody, maintenance and safe use of the Bank’s motor vehicle in his/her charge.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The job will require the Office Attendant (Driver/Messenger) to:
  • Make official errands, collecting and delivering mail, parcels and other items, and performing related routine and special duties as instructed.

  • Assist in moving office furniture and equipment, papers, packages, documents, stationery, etc. as directed, and distribution and the reordering of bottled water.

  • Meet, greet and transport Bank personnel, officials and official visitors as instructed.

  • Maintain a vehicle log book showing dates, destinations and mileage travelled. He/she also records dates on which the vehicle is serviced, repairs are effected, parts are replaced, and gasoline and oil purchased.

  • Ensure that the vehicle is regularly checked and serviced in keeping with the service manual provided.

  • Check and ensure that the vehicle is clean and in good working condition at all times, and report any defects to the Administrative Assistant (General Administration) as soon as they are discovered.

  • Drive any of the Bank’s vehicles as instructed.

  • Report immediately to the Administrative Assistant (General Administration) or Senior Clerk (Procurement) any accident or incident involving the Bank’s vehicle.

  • Provide physical support to ASU in emergency situations.

  • Ensure vehicles are fueled sufficiently to allow for any emergencies on a weekend.

  • Ensure by appearance, mode of dress, and interaction with general public and words spoken, that the image and reputation of the Bank is held in highest esteem.

  • Assist in the Print Room, as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

The Office Attendant (Driver/Messenger) must be capable of operating a motor vehicle, and skilled in the routine maintenance and repair of the motor vehicle in his/her charge. He/she must also be capable of understanding general instructions, procedures and practices associated with an International Organisation. The Office Attendant must also be knowledgeable of the locations of offices and other institutions in Bridgetown and its environs as well as having a general knowledge of the island’s streets and road system.

The Office Attendant (Driver/Messenger) must have:

1. A valid penalty-free driver’s license.

2. Completed secondary school education. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of 3 CXCs or equivalent at the General Proficiency Grade 3 or higher, inclusive of English Language.

3. Computer literacy with an understanding of Microsoft Windows, MS Outlook and MS Word.

7. Attention to detail and precision, preventing injury to others and/or damage to vehicles, when operating on public roads.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
