Job Description

The Material Handler maintains a continuous material flow throughout the facility to ensure production demands are met.

Essential Functions:

  • Load/unload raw materials and finished goods efficiently and safely. Ensure that outbound trailers are loaded properly to distribute weight and eliminate damage.
  • Operate a forklift; must have the ability to operate, or be trained to operate, the following equipment: hand jack, drum dolly, clamp truck, scissors lift, powered hoist, powered floor scrubber, and safety cage set up.
  • Supply production lines with correct materials needed to keep support production demands while following FIFO (first in/first out) and verifying that materials are approved to enter production.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized warehouse and work area.
  • Building and grounds maintenance as needed (i.e. snow removal).
  • Support production lines as needed and directed (i.e. skidding, packing, cleaning.)
  • Process all required paperwork accurately and timely; accurately input of barcode data into aScan system.
  • Removal of waste from the production lines as well as transport waste and cardboard to compactor.
  • Safely change forklift batteries using provided safety gear.
  • Assist in physical inventory and cycle counts.
  • Ability to read and understand Bills of Lading (BOL) from inbound loads and outbound shipments.
  • Complete lot tacking of all incoming raw materials and packaging components.
  • Pick and stage finished goods in warehouse prior to shipping.
  • Proper marking of raw materials for warehouse storage.
  • Some Material Handlers at times may be asked to perform lead functions in the absence of their Supervisor.  The specific duties are infrequent and only on an as needed basis.  They include scheduling, completing group sheets, and providing direction to other Material Handlers.
Specialized Knowledge:
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED and one to three months of related experience and/or training.
  • Must have the ability to operate, or be trained to operate, the following equipment: hand jack, drum dolly, clamp truck, scissors lift, powered hoist, powered floor scrubber, and safety cage set up.
  • Requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret business information, journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to write reports and findings and present to all levels of management in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractures, and decimals. Ability to use formulas to convert weights and meansurements (i.e. converting grams to pounds).
  • Demonstrated excellence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point), experience with Google Suite and inventory/manufacturing software.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion with information.
