JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

JOB TITLE:  Physical Therapist   

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:  The Physical Therapist is responsible for providing prescribed

treatments of physical therapy to patients of the comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation

program as well as providing clinical supervision and direction to certain clinical staff.

The prescribed treatments involve complex and sophisticated modalities designed to

achieve therapeutic goals and to restore the patient to maximum functioning.  The

Physical Therapist provides supervision to physical therapist assistants, physical therapy

technicians and students.  The position reports to the Clinic Director. 

 

STATUS:  Full-time, part-time or per diem.  Non-exempt position.

 

EDUCATION:  Graduate of an accredited school of physical therapy.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:  Experience in outpatient medical rehabilitation preferred.

 

SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:  Possession of a current Pennsylvania

license as a Physical Therapist.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Essential Elements

 

1.         Evaluate patient's need for physical therapy including: patient's functional

            abilities, need for physical assistance, and rehabilitation potential.

 

2.         Develop long and short term treatment goals (in collaboration with the patient,

            family, significant others, and the interdisciplinary team) to develop, improve,

            and/or restore the performance of necessary functions.

 

3.         Provide treatment to patients as certified and ordered by physicians using

            treatment modalities and practice standards recognized by the Pennsylvania State

            Board of Physical Therapy and the American Physical Therapy Association.

4.         Coordinate treatment of patients with staff, family members, and significant

            others as applicable.

 

5.         Regularly re-evaluate patient progress and inform the patient's physician and

            interdisciplinary team.

 

6.         Prepare a written treatment plan on each patient

 

7.         Maintain appropriate clinical documentation in a prompt and comprehensive

            manner, documenting patient progress.

 

8.         Engage the patient in purposeful activity, in conjunction with therapeutic methods

            to achieve treatment goals identified in the written treatment plan.

 

9.         Provide specialized training to other staff, family members, consultants, and other

            individuals as needed.

  

10.       Participate in clinical case conferences and in-service programs to share

            information with the interdisciplinary team.

 

11.       Attend team meetings and other meetings as required.

 

12.       Actively participate on committees.

 

13.       Supervise physical therapist assistants, physical therapy technicians and students.

 

14.       Deliver physical therapy services to patients in accordance with accepted

            standards of treatment and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and

            regulations and interpretations thereof.

 

15.       Interact and work closely with administrative personnel on projects as needed.

            address ongoing personal development needs in order to keep up with the

            rapid changes in the health care industry.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Works inside.  Work demands frequent walking,

bending, lifting, and other body movements while providing treatment.  Must be

physically able to provide treatment and demonstrate therapeutic techniques.  Sitting for

paper work, meetings, activities, telephone calls, and reading information.  Must be

physically able to assist patients in transfer techniques.  Must be able to travel to other

clinics.
