Can
I add new items to the "Status" field for my candidates
or positions?
The "Status" fields are used by the system for a variety
of reporting and security features, and cannot be altered by the
user. You may want to consider creating a Custom Field, or using
one of the other additional fields to designate data not sufficiently
covered by the existing "Status" codes.
What do the tiny icons in my Schedule mean?
PCRecruiter adds tiny icons to the schedule for
visual cues when certain key terms are used in the item's description.
They are as follows:
| Key Terms |
|
Icon |
| Call / Phone |
 |
| Demo / Demonstration |
 |
| Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner / Food |
 |
| Meet / Meeting |
 |
| Travel |
 |

RESUME INHALER
Every
time I try to pull resumes from Outlook, I get a security warning
and have to reset the option every 10 minutes.
Recent updates to MS Outlook include a new 'security enhancement'
to prevent third-party applications from sending unauthorized email.
This security option is part of Outlook, and cannot be disabled
from the Inhaler itself. If your orgaization uses a Microsoft Exchange
server, you can download
a security patch from Microsoft to disable
the warnings. If you are not using an Exchange Server, you may
want to download and install
Advanced
Security for Outlook,
a small freeware utility for Outlook 2000/2/3 that can authorize
applications to make MAPI connections to Outlook without the warning
message. Please note
that Main Sequence Technologies did not create these utilities,
and cannot support them nor be held responsible for any problems
that arise from their use.
ADMINISTRATIVE & DATABASE MAINTENANCE
How
do I delete a rollup list from my database?
You may use the Utilities area of the Rollup List screen to clear
the contents of a list, but if you want to delete the list itself
(not its constituent records), you'll need to look under the Rollup
Lists area of the System Tab. From here, you can alter or delete
current rollups.
How do I consolidate or limit the "Title" field options in my
database?
The content of "Title" dropdowns in PCRecruiter is generated
in one of two ways, depending on the preferences in the individual
user's record. "On
the Fly" mode
means that any title that has been entered for a record becomes
part of the list of available choices for other records of the
same type. You may also use the "Titles" area of the
System Tab to pre-define a list of titles that will appear for
name and job entries. If you set all users' preferences to "Use
Titles Table Only",
they will only be able to choose titles from the pre-defined list.
This can prevent clutter, but also means that no new titles can
be entered by non-admin users.
If you want to 'clean up' your titles
for job records and you've been entering titles "on the fly" instead
of with a locked-down titles table, you'll have to search for any
jobs currently bearing the titles you want to remove and change
the title to something else. Once there are no remaining records
with that title, it will disappear from the dropdown list of options.
To generate a list of all Titles in the pre-defined table, go to
the SQL Workbench, enter "select * from titles" and click 'Export'.
BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING
My
ADDR tool, job description area, resume area, form letter screen,
email screens, and/or schedule alarms are behaving strangely or
not working at all.
These areas of the program are goverened by the
PCRecruiter ActiveX Controls. If they are not performing properly,
the first step is to download our controls
pack (controls.exe). When you are prompted to "Open" or "Save"
the file, Save it on your Desktop. After the download completes,
close all Internet Explorer Windows that are open on the machine,
and then open the Controls.exe file you downloaded. You must be
logged into your PC with administrative rights - if your user
login does not have permission to install software, this process
will not work. If your resume area is visible, but too small,
try holding down the Shift key while clicking on the Resume button,
which will open it in a new fullscreen window, or try using the
"Frameless" mode option on the PCRecruiter login page.
My email signature is not appearing when
I send email, even though I have one defined.
If email stationery is present, even if it is blank, it will override
the signature. To make sure that you do not have an empty email
stationery in use, go to System >> Email Setup and click on the
Email Stationery option. If you have any Active email stationery
listed, click on it and use the pulldown menu inside to de-activate
the stationery.
My training CD doesn't have audio or video in some sections, or appears to be freezing.
Recent versions of Apple Quicktime Player have Flash Media playback disabled by default, which will prevent parts of our Basic Training from being played back properly. To fix the issue:
- Download and install the latest version of Quicktime (you can download the version without iTunes, and you don't need to put in an email address)
- After installing, open the Quicktime player (usually under Start Menu > Programs > Quicktime > Quicktime Player)
- Go to the "EDIT" menu and choose "Preferences > Quicktime Preferences"
- Click the "Advanced" tab in the upper right corner.
- Check off the box marked "Enable playback of Flash tracks"
- Hit "OK"
- Close Quicktime
My Rollup Stage/Status selection area is blank when I click the
arrow to set someone's stage.
Go to the "Rollup Lists" option under the SYSTEM tab (or have
an administrator do so). Locate the list and click "Edit". Then,
reset the Default Activity Type to "Please Select An Activity Type".
An email I sent from my ASP account
bounced back with an error and was not received, but the email
address is correct.
Try to view the text of the error message if it is not
already included in the body of the bounced email. The method for
viewing the error message will depend largely on what mail reader
you use (i.e. Outlook, Outlook Express, PCR Email), but you may
need to locate the "properties" or "mail headers" of
the email to see the actual error message text. If you notice
messages from services such as 'Spamhaus' or 'SPEWS' in the header
code on the email, this indicates that the intended recipient's
email service has 'blacklisted' all email from our ASP service
and has treated your message as probable spam. Some email service
providers subscribe to third-party lists (such as Spamhaus and
SPEWS) which have chosen to list our mail servers as spam concerns.
It is the prerogative of the email service provider to 'whitelist'
mail from your account to the recipient.Your only options are to
contact the intended recipient and ask them to request that your
emails be "whitelisted" by their mail service provider
to allow them to come through, or to simply send any email directed
to that recipient from outside of PCRecruiter.
When
I try to send mail from my PCRecruiter Windows program, I get a "572
Relay not authorized" error.
When you send any email, it must first go from your computer to
an email server. This may be a mail server inside of your company,
or more likely, a mail server run by your internet service provider.
Some email servers require "authentication" to send an
email - authentication is a process by which a username and password
are transmitted to the mail server, notifying it that the email
is being sent by a valid and authorized user. While complete email
programs like Outlook are capable of transmitting this type of
data to the mail server, PCRecruiter Windows version is not. If
your mail service provider requires authentication (an increasingly
common thing, as it prevents abuse by spammers), you will be unable
to send email from our program directly through the email server.
Your only options are to either use the MAPI option in PCRecruiter
to pass all outgoing email through your regular mail program, or
to contact your internet service provider about using an "open
relay" for your outgoing email.
Resumes
that I've imported into PCRecruiter are malformed, or contain 'code'.
Resumes can exist in three different formats in PCRecruiter; Word
format, RTF format (a universal formatted text filetype similar
to Word, but with fewer features), and HTML (web-page format).
The resume format depends largely on where the resume came from
and how it got into PCRecruiter. Resumes copied from the web are
often HTML format, whereas resumes pulled from file attachments
on emails are often Word format. If you are having trouble viewing
a resume, it's possible that the 'view mode' that you are in isn't
properly matched to the resume you are currently viewing. In PCRecruiter
for Windows, check the "Change Viewed Format" menu on
the Resume screen. In the Web version of PCRecruiter, make sure
you check the "Use Word Editor" box if it's available
on the screen.
Everything
I click on in PCRecruiter Web opens in a new window.
If you are using a browser bookmark or 'Favorite'
to open PCRecruiter, delete and re-create it. Make sure that you
are at the logon screen for your database when creating the shortcut,
as opposed to being already inside of the database. Also, check
the Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab in your Internet Explorer;
look for an option called "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts"...
make sure it's unchecked. If links are opening in new windows for all websites,
and not just PCRecruiter, check to make sure that your Shift key
isn't stuck, as shift-clicking any link in your browser will open
it in a new window.
When
I email a Profile link to an AOL user, the mail gets bounced with
a '554 HVU:IP' error.
AOL has a policy against accepting mail where
the content includes a link to an IP address (e.g. http://65.199.122.2).
If you are self-hosting PCRecruiter and your server does not have
a domain name associated with it, AOL will bounce any mail you
send with a link to PCRecruiter included. You'll need to purchase
a domain name, link it to your server, and enter the new domain
address in the "External URL" field on the 'System >> Console >>
Edit Database Names & Locations' screen.
I
cannot open files from my "Attachments" area
in PCRecruiter.
You may find that entering an External URL for
your data location resolves the issue. Open System >> Console:
Data Locations/System Setup/Utilities >> Edit Database Locations.
Choose the Data Location that you wish to edit, and click "GO".
Look for the "External URL" field.
If you are using the Main Sequence Technologies ASP (pcrecruiter.net),
enter http://www.pcrecruiter.net into the field. If you
host your own PCRecruiter server, enter the External domain name
or IP of the server - if you are not sure what the IP is, you'll
need to ask your administrator (it should not begin with a 192.x.x.x
or 127.x.x.x, these are internal network IPs only).
