Its update time again for your PCRecruiter
Windows version. This round included some strong changes and some
long requested features.
Main Sequence is continuing to develop the Windows version of PCR.
Many vendors in the space have gone to web based only. We think
both Windows and Web software have a long life ahead.
If you need remote access or if you want a full bore Online Job
Board, PCR Web works perfectly with your existing PCR database and
is a great compliment. Please see www.pcrecruiter.com or contact
your vendor for more information.
So here are the changes for the Windows version-
BACKGROUND RESUME INDEXING
When you save a resume, it will index in the background. You will
know it is indexing because the PCRecruiter title bar will contain
"[INDEXING]" during this time. While indexing, you cannot
delete name records, you cannot change databases, and you cannot
enter help->about.
If you attempt to quit the program, a window will appear letting
you know the indexing is still running. Once done, the window will
disappear and PCRecruiter exits as usual.
There is no longer a checkbox for "index resume immediately"
in the ADDR, as it now uses the settings to determine if an indexer
is being run on the server, or if it needs to index in the background.
In prior versions, if you turned that checkbox off, and were not
running the indexer on the server, the resume would never be indexed.
Ouch.
ADDR IMPROVEMENTS
The ADDR will now take pasted HTML source code and use it for resumes.
No need for RTF if the format will suffer too much. Changing a resume
to HTML can often save otherwise misformatted resumes.
ADDR's name/address recognition has been improved under some circumstances.
SYSTEM->OPTIONS->DIALER
There is a new setting here to turn up or down the pause between
dialing the phone number and then the extension. If you don't want
the extension, you can turn it all the way down to "Ext. Disabled"
AUTO MATCH
Now the auto match brings up a checklist of the items you want
calculated in the match- City, Zip, Keywords, Title, etc. This enhances
the function of the auto match by allowing the user to prioritize
the factors as they relate to the real world search.
Keep in mind that the auto match is not a substitute for a carefully
built search; it’s best used for a quick first run or for
an “on the fly” use (i.e you are on the phone, in a
meeting etc.)
INTERVIEW STATUS
The original (1st open, 2nd open, etc.) items were replaced by
ACTIVITY TYPES in recent versions. Many people liked this, but they
still wanted a separate list of Interview status items. This is
now available on the system tab.
If you want to copy your activity type table to the Interview Status
table, there is a button to do that. Third try should do it!
HTML HIGHLIGHTING
If you search for keywords in resumes that are HTML and pull up
the resume, it will now highlight those words in RED. This used
to only work with RTF formatted resumes.
SYSTEM->GLOBAL CHANGES->CHANGE KEYWORDS
There is a new tab under "Global Changes" called "Change
Keywords". This tab allows you to take a rollup list of candidates
and replace/add/delete their keywords. Also, the layout of all the
tabs in Global Changes has been improved for comprehension and readability.
SYSTEM->CUSTOM FIELDS
A lot has been done. You can now RENAME custom fields, if you have
full administrator rights. If you rename the custom field, it will
first make sure you are not making a duplicate, and will then cascade
the rename through all the companies/candidates/positions.
There was also a feature so that when you deleted a custom field,
it was supposed to delete all the custom fields under the candidates/companies/positions
that were empty. That never worked, but it does now.
ACTION->ROLLUP LISTS | OPTIONS->STAGE->RENAME
STAGES
The stage names are now handled a bit differently. They are still
unique names for each user, however, the thin and thick client will
now share stage names between each other.
Also, if you move from one computer to another and log on as your
user, the stage names will follow you to that new computer. There
are stage names for candidates, companies, and positions.
ENCRYPTED REGISTRATION CODES
The registration codes are more securely encrypted to assure product
integrity. In other words, it’s a bit harder than it was to
spank a free copy of PCRecruiter.
UPGRADE ON EDIT->ATTACHMENTS
The attachment form had a few problems, which are now fixed. One
is that when you opened the attachment form, and the first attachment
on the list was an HTML document, the HTML would not appear correctly.
You would almost always be asked if you wanted to save changes even
when you didn't make any changes. Also, you can “View Global
Attachments" without it hanging PCRecruiter.
SYSTEM->RECRUITER/USERS->USER PREFERENCES
There is now a new checkbox labeled "Do Not Copy Name Activities
to Company Activities by Default." This new option will cause
the checkbox "Copy Activity to Company" to be cleared
by default (as opposed to checked on) when you enter a new Activity
for a candidate. The default for this new preference is off, so
nothing will happen differently unless someone checks this option
on.
LETTER FIX
When you click on LETTER, and then in that same form, click on
the EMAIL button without typing anything first, some garbage HTML
headers would appear in the letter text entry window. This no longer
happens.
BACKUP
And finally, as always, please check the status of your backups.
If you use the SQL version, you need to know where your .BAK files
are. Check the dates on them to see that they are being changed.
If you don’t know where they are, find out right away so you
can eyeball the dates on them.
If you are using Access, make sure you know what your data file(s)
is and where it is being copied. It will be an .MDB file.
At the bare minimum, you can copy and paste it to any hard drive
and that can serve as a backup. Hard drive space is very, very cheap
and pasting your DB somewhere can be done in seconds, whenever you
wish.
Don’t wait for trouble to check the dates- just make it a
daily or weekly task to ensure that the files are where they need
to be.
Hitting HELP->ABOUT will give you the name, size, and location
of your .MDB file for each database you log into. If its an SQL
database, it will say so, and you should then find your .BAK file.
