It’s that time again –
update information for users of PCRecruiter software!
This round has some new products announcements as well as several
new features that have long been asked for.
Main Sequence has some products to announce that could enhance
your PCRecruiter system:
RESUME INHALER
The PCRecruiter Resume Inhaler is a totally new product. Unlike
our recent Commander In Chief, this product inhales heartily. When
you aim it at a folder or an email inbox, it will automatically
extract all of the resumes from the chosen location and create PCRecruiter
name records. In other words, FULLY AUTOMATIC action for resume
imports. The newly created records will carry a status of “U”
(for unverified), which means that the name record has not yet been
viewed and confirmed by a person. The resumes will be searchable
and can be pre-directed to various rollup lists by invoking sorting
rules as the resumes are processed.
You may also target the Inhaler to another PCRecruiter database
and then sort and verify the names you want to see moved to your
main database. The rollup list copy utility checks for duplicates,
which is helpful to avoid overwriting records. We have further refined
the parsing rules for duplicate checking to enhance accuracy.
The Resume Inhaler is a separate application from PCRecruiter that
has its own installer, and works with both the Web and Windows versions
of PCRecruiter. The cost is $500 for single users and $1500 for
multiple users per site. This is a standard one-time charge, which
includes one hour of training and installation. We are currently
developing a downloadable training presentation for the application.
For firms that do a lot of resume handling, the Resume Inhaler should
pay for itself in just a few months through administrative time
saved.
MAIN SEQUENCE ASP AND WEB VERSION OF PCRECRUITER
If you want PCRecruiter access from anywhere and you don’t
want to support your own server and database anymore, you can send
us your data and use the Web Version of PCRecruiter for a reasonable
monthly fee. You won’t need to re-index, back up data or worry
at all about your server's size and speed. We take care of the entire
hosting function using top-notch equipment and technology partners.
If you are moving from Access to SQL, you can save the cost of a
server and SQL software, as well as the PCRecruiter upgrade fee,
because we handle both SQL and Access in the ASP as desired for
the same monthly charge. Although it's not exactly new, many owners
don’t know that you can also install the PCRecruiter web version
on your own server for remote access and a speedy alternate interface
while in the office.
If you have never seen the PCRecruiter Web version, you might find
a demo interesting. If you are doing a lot with email and spend
most of your time in Internet Explorer, the web version may be a
nice boost for your team. The Web version is nearly self-training
if you already know the Windows version. For ease in training people
who are unfamiliar with both forms of PCRecruiter, the Web version
has a new two-hour training CD (much like the Windows training CD)
that details the whole system with an (optional) original ambient
electronica soundtrack to help combat the "sure to induce napping"
depth of its detail.
Check with Main Sequence or a reseller to find out if ASP makes
sense for you and for further information about the web version
of PCRecruiter.

WHO TO CHOOSE.COM
If you wish to post jobs to multiple online job boards in one step,
you'll want to sign up for WhoToChoose.com. You can post positions
directly to WhoToChoose.com from the Position screen. Go to "SYSTEM->RECRUITERS
USERS->JOB POSTING SITES->WHOTOCHOOSE.COM SETTINGS" and
enter your username and password (set up through WhoToChoose.com.)
Also, turn on the permission "WhoToChoose.com Posting"
for those users that you want to allow to post. See the "Who
To Choose Startup Guide" for details.
Once set up is complete, a new menu item called "Send Job
to WhotoChoose.com" will appear under "FILE->JOB BOARD
POSTING" on the position form. If you select this, the current
job template will be sent to whotochoose.com and a web browser will
be opened so you can select the job boards and categories, review
the posting charges, and then finalize the posting. This should
save some time cutting and pasting and perhaps could streamline
the way you multi-post.
And now for the changes, for versions 3.90.747 and above:
ACTIVITY WEIGHT ENHANCEMENT
Many owners have been asking for a way to print up one report showing
“everything” that a recruiter has done in a chosen time
frame. At the same time, owners would like to “weigh”
certain actions to be worth more than others. For example, 25 points
for an Interview, 50 points for a placement, 10 points each for
two resumes imported and 5 points for a reference call could equal
a “100 point day”.
You can pick and choose any activities (some made by the system
and some entered by owners as activity types or interview status
entries) and the system will assign the weights and totals to each
user for the date range selected. To use this, from the main form,
select REPORT->AUDITING REPORT-> ACTIVITY WEIGHTS.
This report can also be exported to Excel in the form of a pie
chart by clicking on the grid.
TWO NEW CANDIDATE STATUS TYPES
There have been two new candidate status types added. "Unverified"
and "Unavailable". Unverified, which was newly created
for the Resume Inhaler, is the default for records that have been
created automatically. These will need to be checked by a human
(or a recruiter) and converted to another status (like "Available").
The "Unavailable" status type can be used when a candidate
is not available for placement services (i.e. the candidate requests
to not be contacted), but you do not want to delete their record.
CANDIDATE SELECTION ENHANCEMENT
When selecting a candidate (i.e. for placement on the position form),
the candidate status will now be displayed in the same fashion as
it appears on the SEARCH tab from the main form when listing candidates.
There is also a checkbox to display a count of the previous placements
for each candidate.
ROLLUP LISTS - LAST ACTIVITY ENHANCEMENT
When viewing rollup lists, there is now an option under "FILE->ENABLE
LAST ACTIVITY COLUMNS" that you can select which will add columns
for 'Last Activity Date' and 'Last Activity Type' to the Names, Companies
and Position rollup lists.
Since this information must be generated dynamically from another
database table, it WILL slow down the displaying of large rollup
lists on this form. Because of this, there is a nice little message
ito inform you of this when you enable these columns.
VIEW ROLLUP LISTS - COMPANY ROLLUP ENHANCEMENTS
Two new items have been added for use in the Company rollup lists.
When you select EDIT->VIEW NAMES (to view the names associated
with the company instead of the activities), these items appear
in the bottom half of the View Rollup List form.
First, there is now an EMAIL column for each associated name listed
with the chosen company. Secondly, if you right-click on a name,
there is now a menu item to create an activity for that name. It's
a lot quicker than having to jump to the name record, press the
activity button and add a new activity from there.
TEMP SUBSYSTEM ENHANCEMENTS
When a candidate is placed in a temp, contract, or intern-type position
now, PCRecruiter will set their status as being "On Assignment".
If an Ending Date is entered for the job, these candidates will
automatically be put back into the "Temporary Candidate"
status after the end date has passed. The Temp Candidate's status
and the "TEMP" type detail fields will update if necessary
during database maintenance at the beginning of each day to reflect
the starting or ending of temp roles. This will result in a breif
flag when you start PCRecruiter that says “Database Maintenance
Underway”. When you see that note, it means that the TEMP
subsystem is checking for and opening /closing dates and contractors.
The Interview form (where Placements are recorded) also now has an
"hours" entry for temporary type jobs to allow recording
of raw hours worked by the candidate.
When editing a "Placement" or "Temp Placement"
interview record, there is now an option under the Detail tab to
select how the position was ended. The possible selections are "N/A"
(default), "Termination on Positive Terms", “Termination
on Negative Terms", and "Voluntary Termination".
Generally, this will be used for temp placements and not for permanent
placements. It may provide valuable data for future reports.
INTERNATIONAL DATE FORMAT
When working in PCRecruiter from a location that uses the dd/mm/yy
date format (or any other configuration), PCRecruiter should now
display and save the proper date format throughout as set in your
computer's control panels.
INTERVIEW/PLACEMENT FORM (HANDSHAKE ICON)
When viewing the Positions for a company, you can now view the most
recent candidate placed.
MERGE DUPLICATES FIX / ADD
Formerly, when merging duplicates, a search on multiple criteria
(i.e. name/phone) where one of the criteria matches had empty string
would not generate the list properly in the 'merge duplicate' form.
Empty strings are now handled properly. Furthermore, the date entered
is now shown on the merge list, making it easier to choose the best
master record for the merge.
MS WORD DETECTION FIX
Sometimes Microsoft Word would return an Automation error during
loading, which could be ignored. However, this was causing some
systems to not detect that Word had been installed properly, and
impeding functionality of the Resume or ADDR forms. This is now
handled properly.
ADDING KEYWORDS ENHANCEMENT
When adding Skills/Keywords to Companies or Candidates, there is
now a popup menu item when you click on a desired Specialty Code.
You can now add just the code without the description.
PRIMARY INDUSTRY FIELD NOW RESIZABLE
We had some customers trying to enter primary industry text that
exceeded what the database field would hold. The primary industry
field in the database is now resizable to allow such flexibility
for advanced users.
AS ALWAYS, DON'T FORGET TO BACK UP YOUR DATA!
