Process/Product Engineer – MEMS, tunable optoelectronic devices / Semiconductor 

100-130k range

At Rudzinsky Associate’s New England client, they’ve redefined light based technology with a bold new approach to optoelectronics based instrument and optical/optoelectronic component design. A leading supplier of optical instruments to the telecommunications industry, Rudzinsky Associate’s client is applying its expertise in micro-optics and precision manufacturing to pioneer completely new, miniaturized, high performance analytical instruments.


The Product Engineer is a bridge between R&D/Engineering and Manufacturing of MEMs Optoelectronic Devices.  It is important to know about Mems devices, and the semiconductor fabrication processes used to fabricate them.  This is an important contributor to NPI, new product introduction.

Description:

Reporting to Operations but working closely with Design Engineering, the individual in this role is responsible for understanding the factors influencing performance and reliability of our proprietary MEMS tunable filter. The scope of responsibility includes device fabrication (MEM’s or semiconductor processing familiarity), characterization (understanding metrology and testing), data tracking, analysis and recommendations for yield improvement and cost reduction. The individual is expected to engage, focus and lead appropriate company resources on solving device-related problems and issues throughout the value stream. This position is very hands-on, and requires a high degree of cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities:

Establish and Maintain device quality plan:

Implement and document in-process tests & specifications

  • Analyze correlations between performance and processes throughout the value stream

  • Track device, module & system performance CpK’s, identify and prioritize continuous improvement initiatives

    Yield and Cost Management:

  • Understand yield/cost relationships & drivers, including material cost and the impact of driving the losses back to earlier points in the value stream.

  • Design and coordinate experiments to understand the relationship between the various test points. Work with Engineering in validating or improving specification flow-down.

  • Responsible for process optimization, scrap reduction, disposition and associated corrective actions

  • Present yield and yield improvement strategies

    Device Documentation (Routing, BOM, device Test Specs, ECO Implementation):

  • Ensure device documentation properly reflects intended design and process

  • Develop appropriate device configurations as determined by system requirements.

  • Develop appropriate in-process test limits and specifications to maximize yield. Specification Reviews:

  • Review new specifications and analyze requirements against existing capabilities to estimate costs and yields for new products and applications.

Minimum Qualifications:

BSEE, BSME or similar

  • 5 years in depth engineering experience with Si wafer fabrication processes and MEMS device fabrication highly desired

  • Knowledge and experience with optics and optical MEMS devices or optoelectronic device processes.

  • Demonstrated strength in statistics and statistical analysis. DOE or process characterization experience a plus

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience with electro-optical test processes, data access and data manipulation tools

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. PMP certification a plus.
