Director of Global Manufacturing Operations – Telecom Fiber

Rudzinsky Associate’s client, a Global leader in Optical Technology, Materials, Components, is actively seeking an experienced leader to lead a multi-plant manufacturing operation responsible for more than 500 employees, several locations, producing between 800-1200 tons of materials annually and growing.

Our client enjoys a leading market position, and this manufacturing operation enjoys great efficiencies in production and profitability. Our client is seeking someone who can continue and improve the growth and productivity of this vital manufacturing operation, overseeing regular capital expansion projects and continued forecast demand for its leading edge products.

Position Summary:

This leader will provides global regulation and leadership to our client’s Operations teams of all Telecom related fiber sites with responsibilities for preparing and executing operating plans, policies, programs, projects, etc., and supports the determination and execution of the Telecom Fiber short- and long-term business plans, strategies, goals and action plans.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Bears entrepreneurial responsibility for RA’s client’s Telecom Fiber Operations, with focus on European plant and preforms and tube manufacturing in the US.
  • Ensures compliance with laws and RA’s client’s in-house rules and regulations
  • Performs corporate duties with regard to environmental protection and occupational health and safety
  • Develops a world-class organization in Telecom Fiber Operations, and develops his global production units to excellence
  • Ensures productivity and cost optimization along the complete Telecom Fiber value chain.

Internal and External Interactions / Relationships:

  • Strong cooperation with Telecom Fiber Sales to understand the needs of the customers by networking with key customers/business experts worldwide
  • Heavy contact with the OPEX-Team and managers within RA’s client. Frequent involvement in discussions on company goals and plans, market and customer information, processes and products, new business opportunities, company policies and procedures, etc. –Shared Responsibility
  • Moderate contact with main suppliers to ensure safe and cost conscious supplies in cooperation with Procurement – Shared Responsibility
  • Attends local business group meetings and community affairs to represent RA’s client’s locally in cooperation with Company Communications – Shared Responsibility
  • Integral member of the core Telecom Fiber management team, jointly ensuring to reach strategic goals – Shared Responsibility
  • Facilitates best practice programs with sites in Asia – Shared Responsibility

Innovation / Change related Challenges:

  • Promotes a “climate of innovation and change” within the relevant departments and ensures a successful support of innovation and change management
  • Explains, manages and asserts necessary changes within the relevant departments
  • Closely cooperates with R&D and ensures operation’s support within innovation projects with respective process engineering activities – Shared Responsibility

Knowledge Requirements:

Minimum of MS in engineering or science. MBA is a plus.

Work Experience Requirements:

  • >10 years of technical manufacturing experience with > 5 years in a management position of significant responsibility, e.g. as site manager, operations manager, …
  • Experience in building and leading teams to a record of accomplishment and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in preparing and carrying out operating plans and participating in the development of company business plans, strategies, goals, action plans, etc.

Specialized Knowledge / Technical Subject Matter Expertise:

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Provides Leadership
  • Organizes and internationalizes the Telecom Fiber Operations organization
  • Is responsible for developing back-up and succession structure in organization
  • Ensures excellent communication within the Operations team as well as business organization
  • Ensures involvement of staff in all major decisions
  • Ensures commercial thinking/consideration in management team
  • Is forward looking and shows business acumen to lead Operations organization

  • Derives a global production strategy for Telecom Fiber from the Telecom Fiber strategy, together with Sales Telecom Fiber, the EVP Global Operations and under involvement of his local Operations Managers
  • Is responsible for planning the global operations budget for Telecom Fiber, in coordination with Sales Telecom Fiber, the EVP Global Operations and the local Operations Managers

  • Is responsible for long-term global workforce planning and development in accordance with the GBU strategy
  • Develops production goals and lead KPIs from Telecom Fiber strategy and uses them to manage global Telecom Fiber Operations. Ensures that these goals are translated to the shop floor (Performance Management Process)
  • Ensures compliance with laws and RA’s client’s in-house rules and regulations
  • Complies with global and regional laws
  • Follows the RA’s client’s code of conduct and compliance guidelines
  • Performs corporate duties with regard to environmental protection and occupational health and safety
  • Is the senior point of contact within Fiber Operations for all questions related to environmental protection and occupational health and safety
  • Ensures compliance with operator responsibilities throughout Operations
  • Is responsible for the management and continuous development of an appropriate organization / structure in the areas of environmental protection and occupational health and safety, in cooperation with the local Operations Managers
  • Ensures that workplaces globally are clean and safe
  • Is responsible for maintaining employee health, including compliance with the relevant laws (such as labor laws)
