US Job Summary

Set up an 18,000 sq ft. facility in Boston, MA, for the intended purpose of a US Headquarters, Laser Service Center, Regional Sales, and with the potential for R&D and Production where location within the US is critical. Having established the facility, the Operations Manager will be responsible for the smooth running of the facility itself as well as all production that is installed there. It is expected in Years 1-3 that part of the facility will be sub-leased, and the Operations Manager will be responsible for this.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Establish a facility that successfully represents RA’s client in the US as a world-class developer and manufacturer of leading edge laser products
  • Ongoing maintenance and development of that facility
  • Ensure the efficient management of the Boston facility, taking responsibility for ensuring any matters arising outside of Operations are dealt with appropriately in house or escalated to the global functional lead in a timely
  • Embed RA’s client’s global ERP and QMS in the running of the US Operation
  • Set up production in line with a rolling 5 year business plan
  • Be the local “face” in the US for representing RA’s client with regard to operational issues including quality
  • Be the first escalation point for US Customers regarding product delivery and quality
  • Reach across the global organization to ensure RA’s client is fully integrated into the RA’s client world, that best practices are adopted, and we have full operational alignment
  • Direct management responsibility for Operations personnel in the US (where not under a Global umbrella)
  • Direct responsibility for recruiting & training production and related personnel
  • Assist in recruitment of additional personnel (other functions)
  • As required by Global Supply Chain, address US supply-chain issues where it is more efficient to do so
  • Health & Safety for the US facility
  • Responsible for sub-letting part of facility and managing the

Qualifications - Skills – Experience

  • The successful candidate will have been responsible for managing a small to medium size facility, whole or in-part, and be adept at liaising with the Landlord on facility matters, as well as facility
  • Has worked in “high-tech”, ideally in the photonics industry, but as a minimum in complex assembly.
  • Likely to be qualified to degree level in Engineering or Science
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Works successfully in a high-pressure environment, being a calming influence and leading by good fact based analysis and objectivity

Travel Requirements

  • To Europe, typically once per quarter
  • Within the US, 2-6 times per 6 months
  • In the Boston region, as required on facility matters and representing Operations in front of Customers & Suppliers
